I frequently have this mental picture of me sort of lightly smacking the end of my tail against the ground

Not like a whole-tail motion, it’s mostly just in the. I don’t remember the word. The steery flap parts. Kinda like those flaps on airplane wings? In functionality? You guys know what I mean right

I really should just post a goddamn picture of myself sometime but I’m too paranoid about somebody finding this blog and realizing it’s me

Anyway I think everyone knows what I mean but if anyone is confused just hmu and I’ll rb this with a diagram

Anyway I get this mental image of me kinda gently slapping the ground with that part of my tail, in kind of the opposite meaning of when a cat flicks its tail- mild contentedness instead of mild annoyance or irritation.

Not harshly, just a lazy, slow sort of motion. Slow up, relax, quick gentle *smack* on the ground after the fall, repeat

I think it could also indicate a specific sort of excitement with a little more energy, though. Sort of a I’m-wound-up (but-not-to-the-point-of-hyperactivity), sort of a nice-to-see-you, sort of an anticipatory, will-they-won’t-they reaction.

Of course, that’s just on land. In the water that sort of idle, relaxed smack against the ground wouldn’t really be possible at all. I don’t know what purpose it could possibly serve aside from a little gesture of communication- which is by no means impossible, mind you- unless it had to do with launching into motion after prey.

Now. Theoretically. From what I know. Something like that would have been entirely useless in the environment I’m thinking of. It could easily be a leftover instinct from before that environment developed.

It could also just as easily be pointing to something I don’t yet know. And isn’t that exciting!

Well. I think it is, at least. I didn’t think I swam with my tail in any major capacity, but the more you know!
